DNA

No DNA report means pedigree can not be verified and the horse is considered unknown breed.

DNA request, and Ownership of Jockey Club Thoroughbreds

The Irish Draught Horse Society of Canada can request DNA reports of Thoroughbreds registered by the Jockey Club if the owner request matches the owner listed in the Jockey Club's database. Until this is updated neither owner nor IDHSC is able to request DNA records.

  • Thoroughbreds registered with a digital certificate (after 2018) ownership is updated through the Jockey Club's interactive account. If owner doesn't already have an interactive account it is free to sign up and update the ownership.

  • For digital certificates, the person obtaining the horse, must have the person selling/giving the horse away assign the new owner the digital certificate.

  • Not digital? Jockey Club requires the new owner complete the transfer form for processing.  There is no fee and they do not require a chain of previous owners, just the new owner’s information.

Once the ownership record is updated the IDHSC can request the DNA analysis report on behalf of the owner.

Not the owner of the Thoroughbred DNA is required for? You'll need to contact the current owner and they will need to request the DNA for their horse be sent to the IDHSC registration office.

Current owner can't be found of Thoroughbred DNA is required for? Pedigree of the horse can not be verified and therefore will be listed as unknown.

Thoroughbred registered by Sport Horse registry - not Jockey Club (or other international equivalent)?

DNA will need to be requested by the listed owner in the Sport Horse registry. The horse will be listed as the breed of the Sport Horse the horse was registered with once DNA report is provided to the IDHSC.
